High Street Lamppost – public art & community art
The Lamppost Art Project had around 18 creatives, with different levels of experience, different backgrounds come together to create and paint their designs onto lampposts. But what was so important about this public art project?
Meeting the brief was in line with Joyti Kaur Values. With results creating a more vibrant place, where the community can be proud of where they came from. The project was predominantly about inspiring the public and revamping the Slough high street which had previously come with many preconceived notion. For artists to come together and put effort into creating beauty despite risk of anti-social behaviour is commendation to the bravery art takes.
“My aim here is to continue to change perception and show how we can take action to spread positivity and help to create a better place”.
As an artist we also got to explore the difference between inner light and artificial to explore a way to inspire others.
Lamppost name: Starry Eyes
A story of Slough, eye capturing, energetic and demanding of a stare! With wisps of bright clouds hiding the night sky. Interact with the art to see the flight of swans, the smile of flowers, the heights of butterflies and the flight of the heart. Pops of blue, greens and the golden yellow of a starry and inspirational day and night. Slough, what a beautiful place of observations
from artists such as William Herschel. A celebration of a place which grew to be where the stars of the universe were looked up to. Watch and feel the whispering of the stories of the mounds and the trees of Slough, a place that was once a swamp. Signifying shades of growth despite all obstacles. Let’s once again, like the stem, reach and look up to the stars.
This design references to “the nature of Slough”. It showcases the untouched nature of various areas of Slough, full of green and vibrant beauty. This design expands on this and is to inspire positivity, happiness and a step in the right direction. Let’s let the art do the talking!
