High Street Lamppost – Public Art & Community Project
The Lamppost Art Project brought together around 18 creatives from different backgrounds and experience levels to design and paint lampposts along the high street.

But why was this project important?
This work aligned with Joyti Kaur’s values — creating a brighter, more welcoming place that the community can feel proud of. The aim was to inspire the public and help reshape perceptions of Slough High Street, which has often faced negative assumptions.

The artists showed commitment and bravery by creating something beautiful in a space where anti-social behaviour can be a concern. This project proved how public art can bring positivity and change.

“My aim here is to continue changing perception and show how we can take action to spread positivity and help create a better place.”

Starry Eyes explores the idea of inner light versus artificial light, using this contrast as inspiration to uplift others.

A story of Slough, eye capturing, energetic and demanding of a stare! With wisps of bright clouds hiding the night sky. Interact with the art to see the flight of swans, the smile of flowers, the heights of butterflies and the flight of the heart. Pops of blue, greens and the golden yellow of a starry and inspirational day and night. Slough, what a beautiful place of observations
from artists such as William Herschel. A celebration of a place which grew to be where the stars of the universe were looked up to. Watch and feel the whispering of the stories of the mounds and the trees of Slough, a place that was once a swamp. Signifying shades of growth despite all obstacles. Let’s once again, like the stem, reach and look up to the stars.
This design references to “the nature of Slough”. It showcases the untouched nature of various areas of Slough, full of green and vibrant beauty. This design expands on this and is to inspire positivity, happiness and a step in the right direction. Let’s let the art do the talking!
